Q. 1. Who should I trust to do my permanent makeup?

A. 1. First and foremost a specialist. Someone who’s total focus is the application of permanent makeup to the eyebrows, eyeliner and lips. A specialist who continues to keep up-to-date with advanced education, the improvement of techniques, products, colours and equipment and with very strict hygiene and sterility standards for your wellbeing and complete satisfaction. A specialist will always have your best interests at heart and know the correct technique and colour placement to achieve your desired look.

Q. 2. How long does it take to apply permanent colour?

A. 2. The application of colour is a relatively short process and even the most sensitive people manage to cope very well with the application procedure. Most treatment times are about one and a half hours. However, very little of this time is actual application time. Most of it is consultation time prior to commencing application of colour and caring for you after the procedure before you leave.

Q. 3. Is it painful?

A. 3. To apply colour to the skin to last more than a few hours, the colour must be applied into the skin and there is some pain involved in this. However to prick your skin on a rose thorn hurts, waxing hurts and combing knots out of your hair can hurt. A little bit of discomfort is inevitable, but I have quite literally searched the world for the safest and most effective anaesthetic which won’t cause any damage to you at all. I use the very best numbing agent available.

Q. 4. What can I expect after the treatment?

A. 4. I will give you all that you need to take care of your skin and colour. Once you leave my rooms it will be up to you to follow the simple but very effective aftercare advice and use the products I give you to get the best results from the treatment.

No-one else would guess, there is little to no swelling or redness evident. However some people will experience swelling followed by dry lips (like windburn) on about the third day after treatment. Also, if you are prone to cold sores you are unfortunately likely to break out. With the use of specific vitamins prior to treatment and cold sore cream afterwards, most people keep this reaction to a minimum if it occurs all.

Possibly some swelling or redness and in very few cases bruising. However most people leave with no obvious signs of skin trauma. It is worth noting that coldsores virus can be reactivated if you have ever had an outbreak in the past.

With the most up-to-date techniques and the highest quality products available, most people leave the clinic with no obvious signs of having had anything done, except the colour itself. With brows there is no redness or swelling at all. With eyeliner it could be a little red at the outer corners or over the upper eyelid, and some people’s lips look a little plumper. However 95% of clients could leave the clinic and no-one else would guess.

Q. 5. Why does the colour fade?

A. 5. Skin is a living, breathing organ, which is changing, growing and shedding constantly. The rate at which this occurs is vastly different for everyone and explains why colour will last in different skins at different rates.

You may also appreciate that the skin on the face is finer and more delicate than on the rest of the body and therefore care is taken to not damage the skin by applying colour too deeply. (Traditional tattoos are designed to last forever with the use of more heavy duty equipment and colours.)

It is also advantageous for the colour to fade over time as generally we prefer a softer, kinder look as we age. This can be achieved with follow-up treatments as the years go by.

Q. 6. How will I know when I need a retouch?

A. 6. Simply, when you feel the need to add makeup to get the original effect then a retouch is needed. Sometimes it is just a case of having adapted to your looks and you may like to add more colour.

When you will need a retouch varies considerably from person to person. It depends on the quality of your skin, the metabolism of your skin and your lifestyle (sun, saltwater, chlorine exposure). The use of medication and some skin care creams will also play a part in how long the colour will last in your skin. A good example would be to ask six friends how long a perm lasts in their hair and you are likely to get six different answers, all of which also depend on the factors listed above.

The reality is it could be between 2 and 10 years but most people return for the retouch which is a single session at about 3 – 5 years after the first two sessions are completed. By approaching your treatment in this way you will end up with a result you are sure to be delighted with.

Q. 7. How does the cost compare to other treatments?

A. 7. For your money, permanent makeup is probably one of the most economical long-term beauty treatments. Consider also the time you take to apply and reapply makeup daily, which is sometimes more precious than dollars and cents.

The following will give you some comparisons of other treatments, their costs and the average time one would expect it to last.
